Casablanca is not a city to rush, but a layover can still be enough for a good first taste. The key is to be realistic: Mohammed V Airport is outside the city, traffic can change quickly, and airport security takes time.
If you have less than 6 hours between flights, stay near the airport. If you have 6 hours or more, you can usually visit one or two central sights, especially if you store your bags first.
Build your plan around three time blocks:
If you are carrying cabin bags or checked luggage, do not drag them through the city. Store them at a verified point near Casa Voyageurs, Maarif, or your sightseeing area, then move light.
With 6 hours, keep it simple.
This plan works best if your bags are checked through to your final destination. If you have luggage with you, store it before sightseeing or reduce the plan to one stop.
With 8 hours, you can add a second area.
Start with Hassan II Mosque, then continue to the Corniche for sea views and lunch. If you prefer architecture and local shopping, swap the Corniche for the Habous Quarter, known for arcades, bookstores, pastry shops, and a calmer old-town feel.
Best route:
A 12-hour layover lets you see Casablanca without sprinting.
Start at Hassan II Mosque, continue to Habous, then spend late afternoon around Maarif or Anfa for cafes, shopping, and a more modern Casablanca feel. If your layover stretches into the evening, choose dinner near your return route rather than deep inside traffic-heavy areas.
The train is useful if your first stop is near Casa Voyageurs or Casa Port. A taxi or private transfer is easier if you are going directly to Hassan II Mosque, Habous, or a hotel. Always confirm the price before departure if the fare is not metered or prepaid.
Casablanca sidewalks, traffic crossings, and mosque security checks are easier without bags. If your airline does not check luggage through, book luggage storage before leaving the airport area or choose a drop-off near your first city stop.
