Tangier is a major gateway between Spain, Europe, and Morocco. The first thing to check is which ferry port you are using. There are two different situations: Tanger Ville, close to the city, and Tanger Med, far outside Tangier.
Mixing them up can ruin a train connection, so confirm your ferry terminal before booking onward rail travel.
Tanger Ville ferry port is the convenient city port used for connections such as Tarifa. The train station, Tanger Ville, is roughly a short taxi ride away along the bay.
With light luggage, some travelers walk part of the waterfront, but a taxi is usually better if you have suitcases, arrive in heat, or need to catch a train.

Tanger Med is a large port complex outside the city. It is not the same as the city ferry terminal. The transfer to Tanger Ville station can take around an hour or more depending on transport, traffic, and port formalities.
If your ferry arrives at Tanger Med, leave a much larger buffer before booking a train. A tight connection is risky.
Use official taxis or clearly agreed fares. Confirm:
At busy arrival times, do not accept vague pricing. If you feel rushed, step aside, check maps, and regroup before choosing a ride.
If you arrive by ferry and your train is later, store your luggage near the station or city center. That gives you time for the Corniche, old medina, Kasbah area, or a meal without bags.
Keep passport, tickets, medication, and valuables with you. Store only the luggage you do not need before boarding.
