Morocco has a surprisingly complete transport network for North Africa. Between the Al Boraq high-speed train linking Tangier to Casablanca in around 2 hours 10 minutes, the classic ONCF rail lines, and the CTM and Supratours coach networks, you can reach most major cities without renting a car.
ONCF operates two main types of service:
One practical advantage of train travel in Morocco is that stations are often close to the city center, which makes onward travel easier and also makes nearby luggage storage much more useful.
CTM and Supratours cover routes that trains do not, including places like Essaouira, Chefchaouen, Ouarzazate, and Merzouga. Coaches are usually air-conditioned and timetables are fairly reliable, but luggage capacity is not unlimited.
If you are carrying more than you need for the next leg of the journey, it can be much easier to leave part of your luggage in storage rather than paying for baggage supplements or dragging everything with you.
Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia Maroc connect cities such as Casablanca, Marrakech, Fes, Agadir, Nador, Laayoune, and Dakhla. Flights are especially useful when you want to move between the north and the far south without losing a full day to overland transport.
Grand taxis connect nearby towns and regional routes, often with shared seating by the place rather than by the vehicle. Petit taxis operate only within cities and should normally use the meter.
As always, moving with fewer bags makes these transfers much easier, especially when stepping in and out quickly or navigating busy stations.
In medinas, bus stations, and airports, mobility matters. The lighter you travel, the easier every transfer becomes. If you have extra bags or a long gap between connections, storing them for a few hours can make a big difference.
