Travelers can choose a physical SIM, a Moroccan eSIM or an international travel eSIM. Morocco has three national mobile operators: Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and inwi. A local prepaid option usually offers better value, while eSIM is more convenient on arrival.

The three mobile operators in Morocco
No operator is best everywhere. Urban differences are usually less important than performance on mountain, desert or remote coastal routes. Ask rural accommodation which network works at the exact location.
Maroc Telecom for visitors
Maroc Telecom offers physical SIM and a dedicated visitor eSIM. The QR code and PIN can be sent by email or obtained in a store. Its visitor instructions require a first call after arriving in Morocco to activate the line and internet.
Top up online, through Mon Espace MT, authorized retailers or 555. Check your number with #99# and the balance through the app or 580. Verify route-specific coverage before a long overland journey.
Orange Maroc for travelers
Orange sells prepaid physical SIMs and eSIMs online and in stores. Online customers receive the QR code by email.
Orange explicitly accepts a passport for prepaid identification. Online eSIM purchases use bank cards; store purchases may accept cash or card. Keep the QR code securely in case the profile must be restored.
inwi for travelers
inwi advertises an eSIM for travelers coming to Morocco. Activation uses a QR code on compatible iOS or Android phones.
The My inwi app supports monitoring and recharge. Official information says top-ups begin from 5 MAD, with balance checking through 120 or *120*20#.
Physical SIM or eSIM: which should you choose?
Choose a physical SIM when your phone lacks eSIM, you want in-store help or you are staying longer. Choose a local eSIM when your unlocked phone is compatible and you want a Moroccan number without removing your home SIM.
An international travel eSIM is useful for immediate data and short stays, but it may cost more and be data-only. WhatsApp still works, though ordinary local calls or SMS may not be included.
Check that your phone is compatible
Before paying, confirm that your phone supports eSIM and is network-unlocked. On iPhone, use Settings → Cellular/Mobile Data → Add eSIM. On many Android devices, open Settings → SIM manager → Add mobile plan.
Install over reliable Wi-Fi and keep the QR email private.
Where to buy a Morocco SIM
Buy from an official airport counter, branded operator store, authorized retailer or the operator’s official online shop.
At the airport, confirm data, validity, calls and total price. Before leaving, disable airport Wi-Fi and test mobile data and any included local calls.

Coverage in the mountains and desert
Signal can weaken on mountain roads, inside valleys, across desert tracks and in isolated coastal areas.
Download offline maps, save hotel contacts, screenshot tickets and carry a charged power bank. Do not rely on mobile coverage for emergencies. Local guides and accommodation are the best source for camp- or village-specific network advice.
Keep your home number active safely
Dual-SIM phones can keep the home line active for banking codes. Set the Moroccan line for data, disable roaming on the home SIM and turn off automatic data switching. Check your home carrier’s SMS and roaming conditions.

If an eSIM fails, check Wi-Fi, compatibility and network lock before deleting the profile. When data fails, disable Wi-Fi, select the Moroccan line and verify that activation is complete.
